THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER
by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart
starring Andrew Prine

The Parkway Playhouse stage was a bit brighter, when Andrew Prine (pictured left)  took the stage in the production of, The Man Who Came to Dinner,  at the Parkway Playhouse, in Burnsville, North Carolina.

Andrew Prine is a familiar face to Playhouse after his notable turns in Our Town in 2006 and Look Homeward, Angel in 2007.

"This is a huge helping of great American comedy and it is a perfect evening for the whole family" commented director, Andrew Gall. "This is a play that truly has something for everyone."

The Man Who Came to Dinner takes place in suburban Ohio in the late 1930's.  Sheridan Whiteside (PRINE), a noted radio personality, is in town on one of his annual lecture circuit tours when he slips and breaks his hip on some renegade ice.  Confined to a wheelchair, Whiteside, who is the forerunner of great comedic curmudgeons like Archie Bunker and George Jefferson, takes over the home of his host family, forcing them to hide upstairs.  His long-time secretary, Maggie falls in love with the charming but unsophisticated local newspaper editor.  To keep his secretary from falling in love (and leaving him to do his own work) Whiteside engages in a great deal of hilarious shenanigans and inviting the gold-digging starlet Lorraine Sheldon to break up the budding love affair.  Before it is all over the outrageous has become commonplace.
